Water-based acrylic emulsion
Water-based acrylic emulsion is an environmentally friendly chemical product polymerised from acrylic esters using water as the dispersing medium. It appears as a milky-white, uniform emulsion with no noticeable odour, and possesses excellent film-forming properties, adhesion and water resistance. It is widely used in various industries, including coatings, adhesives, building materials and textiles. Correct usage and proper storage are key to maximising the product’s performance and extending its service life. Jiurunfa has compiled detailed usage and storage guidelines based on the product’s characteristics to assist customers in using the product efficiently and safely.
Key considerations should focus on three core aspects: mixing ratios, application environment and operating procedures. Regarding mixing ratios, the emulsion must be blended with other additives in the correct proportions according to specific application scenarios and requirements. During mixing, low-speed stirring should be employed, with the stirring time controlled between 10 and 20 minutes to ensure uniform integration of the emulsion and additives. High-speed stirring should be avoided as it generates excessive air bubbles, which may adversely affect subsequent application results. If dilution is required, clean tap water should be used; the dilution ratio should not exceed 20% of the total emulsion volume. After dilution, the mixture must be thoroughly stirred to prevent separation or sedimentation.
With regard to the application environment, the ambient temperature must be maintained between 5 and 35°C, with relative humidity not exceeding 85%. Avoid application in conditions of low temperature, high humidity, direct sunlight or strong winds. Low temperatures can slow down the film-forming process and result in an incomplete film; high humidity can cause the coating to wrinkle or peel; whilst direct sunlight or strong winds can cause the surface of the emulsion to dry too quickly, leading to cracking. During application, ensure that tools are clean to prevent contamination with oil or impurities. Clean tools promptly after use to prevent the emulsion from drying and caking.
In terms of operational procedures, operators must wear protective equipment such as gloves and face masks to avoid direct contact of the emulsion with the skin and respiratory tract. In the event of accidental contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water. Once opened, the emulsion should be used as soon as possible. After each use, reseal the container promptly to prevent moisture evaporation and the ingress of impurities. Different types of water-based acrylic emulsions must not be mixed indiscriminately to avoid chemical reactions that could impair product performance.
Storage precautions are equally critical, as they directly determine the product’s shelf life and efficacy. The storage environment should be a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, kept away from sources of fire, heat and direct sunlight. The warehouse temperature should be maintained between 5–25°C to prevent the emulsion from deteriorating due to excessively high or low temperatures. The emulsion must be stored in its original container with the lid tightly sealed to prevent air ingress and moisture loss. It must also be kept separate from strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solvents and other such substances to prevent chemical reactions.
During storage, the condition of the emulsion should be checked regularly. If any separation, sedimentation, unusual odour or clumping is observed, this indicates that the product has deteriorated and must not be used. Unopened water-based acrylic emulsions typically have a shelf life of 6–12 months; please refer to the product packaging for specific details. Once opened, it is recommended that the product be used within 15–30 days. All water-based acrylic emulsions produced by Jiurunfa are labelled with detailed shelf life and usage instructions to assist customers in proper storage and safe use.
