The one-step method mostly uses bifunctional catalysts, which are generally physically mixed by two types of catalysts, one of which is the synthesis of methanol catalysts, such as Cu-Zn-Al(O)-based catalysts, BASFS3-85 and ICI-512. The other type is methanol dehydration catalysts, such as alumina, porous SiO2-Al2O3, Y-type molecular sieve, ZSM-5 molecular sieve, mercerized zeolite, etc.
2. Two-step method for dimethyl ether production
The process is carried out in two steps, i.e., methanol is synthesized from syngas, and methanol is dehydrated under a solid catalyst to produce dimethyl ether. ZSM-5 zeolite containing γ-Al2O3/SiO2 is mostly used as a dehydration catalyst at home and abroad. The reaction temperature is controlled at 280~340°C, and the pressure is 0.5-0.8MPa. The single-pass conversion rate of methanol is between 70-85%, and the selectivity of dimethyl ether is greater than 98%.
Compared with the two-step method, the one-step synthesis of dimethyl ether does not have the intermediate process of methanol synthesis, and its process flow is simple, the equipment is less, the investment is small, and the operating cost is low, so that the production cost of dimethyl ether is reduced and the economic benefits are improved. Therefore, the one-step synthesis of dimethyl ether is a hot spot for development at home and abroad. The representative one-step process developed abroad includes: Danish Topsφe process, American Air Products process and Japanese NKK process.
At present, the two-step dimethyl ether production process has been very mature and has been widely used in industrial production.
The two-step synthesis of dimethyl ether is the main process of dimethyl ether production at home and abroad in the 21st century, the method uses refined methanol as raw material, less by-products of dehydration reaction, dimethyl ether purity of 99.9%, mature process, wide adaptability of device, simple post-treatment, can be directly built in methanol production plants, can also be built in other non-methanol production plants with good public facilities.
